Standards

2.1 Use texture in two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art
1.3 Identify the elements of art in objects in nature, in the environment, and   
      in works of art, emphasizing line, color, shape/form, and texture

Time:
45 minutes

Materials:
1.    6 to 10 objects to be used for texture rubbings (examples: plastic lace, plastic leaves or ferns, strawberry basket cut into flat pieces, ribbed paper plate edge)
2.    Newsprint or copy paper cut into 6” squares
3.    Unwrapped crayons, large are best
4.    12” square or 9”x12” construction paper for final pictures

Objectives of Lesson
    1. Students will recognize that objects will create different textured shapes    
        when covered with paper and rubbed with crayon
    2. Students will use a variety of rubbed textures to create works of art

Lesson
1.    Students will use newsprint squares and unwrapped crayons to create texture rubbings
2.    Students will cut the rubbings into interesting shapes
3.    Students will make collages by gluing the shapes onto construction paper.

Assessment

1.    Product: Students will have finished artwork
2.    Oral Response: Students will be able to discuss their works emphasizing line, color, and texture.
