Hello there everyone.  Yes I know, week 5 is over but this morning it suddenly occured to me that last week came and went so fast!  We finished our first unit in the reading test (this means next week is the unit exam), we began reading our second novel (Hatchet), continued work with decimals (test Tuesday) and even started learning about plate techtonics.  Check out the powerpoint and links avaible on our website.  There are a lot of really great animations showing pangea and sea floor spreading.  On Friday afternoon, we recieved a special delivery...our new iMac!  Debate is currently on as what the computer's offical name will be; I think Bob and Stanley were suggested Friday.  We will begin training on the computer as soon as possible.  (Thanks IT guys, you made my students - and my - Friday.)  Thanks to everyone who participated in the magizine drive and the parent volunteer who helped so much.

Because next week is goal setting, we will not have our regular weekly assingments.  Week 6 will continue after fall break.  Please also send in any box tops as soon as possible.

I hope everyone had a restful weekend.  Our magazine fundrasing drive has started.  Please help out our school and send those back in by the 22nd.  Friday night will be the magic show so if you haven't bought tickets yet, do so soon.  Our first homeside activity will come home on Tuesday.  Thank you to everyone who sent in the goal setting time request sheet.  This really helps me put together the schedule and invitations will come home soon.  This week we will be having our regular spelling and vocab/story test as well as a social studies test.

Good news, the spelling words have been posted on the 6th grade website.  All the spelling words and vocab words are listed by story and will remain up for the rest of the year.  Math wall and language wall will continue to be posted weekly.  Next Friday will be our first science test.  These are open note (not open books).  Everyone got a study guide and should have added it to their science notebooks.  Any notes taken on this sheet or in the notebook can be used on the test.  This week only one journal entry will be required due to the holiday Monday.  There will still be math wall, language wall, and problem solving packet.  Don't forget to send in your PTO student pack and start sending in box tops.  Picture day will be Wednesday.  The order form went home last week.  Intervention classses start this week.

Thank you to everyone who turned in the first week packet.  Great Job!  I can't wait to see everyone at back to school night on Thursday.  Our class needs large paper bags for an art project so remember to keep those coming in.  Don't forget that Language Wall is due Thursday (this week we have done a lot of it in class) and on Friday we have a spelling, vocab, and story test for Hatchet.  Math wall and problem solving packet will be due on Friday too.
